WordPress – build your own blog in a few minutes, use it to record ideas, opinions, passions etc. Remember that most blogs have a readership of one, the author, but they are no less useful for that. I’ve used WordPress to build my business blog, this, this, this and, of course, this website. Much more than just a ‘blogging platform’, WordPress is used as a ‘content management system‘ to run sites like this. Plus, it’s free.
Wikipedia – an astonishing achievement, in my view, in spite of its faults (for example, some articles look as though they’ve been drafted by committee which, in a sense, they have). Most of the articles I use are excellent. Sharky refers to wikipedia, of course, in his book.
Wetpaint – a powerful, and again free to use, wiki creation site. Build your own sophisticated website in minutes and use it to manage projects, publish ideas, promote events etc. etc. See the excellent Youtube videos which explain how it works. (Youtube is a good source of tutorials on all the social media systems mentioned here.)
